about

"Szépleányok!” is a look into the tension of body movement. The piece begins as angular, scattered, and resistant - as if the instruments were in a labyrinth, hurriedly looking for an exit point, as if the body is still cold and not yet warmed up. As time goes on, the sonic landscape begins to flatten and coalesce and find fluidity in its path, the body beginning to flow. This is a venturing through the simultaneous beauty of free motion and the relative crudeness of aggression acting as the means to achieve such an endeavor. This, in turn, makes the relationship between grace and coarseness harmoniously interchangeable. It is a tribute to the perspective of how we move and what it means to do so freely. Escalante's searing saxophone circles around the building guitar fractures and stop-start drumming power as an ambient layer behind them all begins to take form, culminating in a climactic stomp towards fluid transgression.
