Following their first album, Dave Tucker (Guitar, Electronics), Pat Thomas (Piano & Keys), Thurston Moore (Guitar), and Mark Sanders (Drums & Percussion) decided to “guess again.”
In March 2020, Tucker organized this group of musicians for an improvised performance at London’s Cafe Oto on a successful “educated guess.” Organized around a shared appreciation for improvisation and experimentation, that show resulted in the release of a two volume set.
The first volume is a spontaneous performance, layering guitars over complex, scattered percussive arrangements and punctuating the noise with distinctive electronic manipulation.
This new volume, Educated Guess, Vol. 2 EP, the second set from the same Cafe Oto show, kicks in with a more acoustic spirit and special emphasis on Pat Thomas’s stellar and unmanipulated piano.
Demonstrating their different backgrounds, UK improvised music heroes Thomas and Sanders, already on a few 577 Records’ releases, join forces with UK-based guitarist Tucker (a longtime collaborator with The Fall, Dudu Pukwana, Louis Moholo) and Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, to create something inventive and bold, pushing the boundary of noise music towards a lush, dissonant electronica.
This experimental project, Educated Guess, Vol. 2, is now available in both CD and digital formats

This record really hits that sweet spot of calm stimulation. Lush, fat, rolling synths form the foundation for controlled but passionate and thoughtful playing and listening from everyone. Meditative and energetic...and always bad-ass. ps0m

This album is absolutely on the mark! The best of what modular synth is capable of, plus a true spiritual feeling of the "griot" heritage, without aping anything. I'm more than impressed. So beautiful. wilsonnovitzki
